Vines are hand-harvested for this red wine in the warmer south-west corner of Montalcino. The wine offers lean, more traditional style of Sangiovese and a vibrant nose with bright red cherry fruit, nutmeg and wet stone minerality. Supple and energetic on the palate with firm but approachable, chalky tannins. Sesti are one of the most delightfully individual producers in Tuscany. These wines are produced by Giuseppe Maria Sesti and his daughter Maria from just 13 hectares of vines surrounding the Castello di Argiano, which features on their labels. Giuseppe, self-described as eclectic by nature, ran the Baroque Opera festival in Batignano for thirty years while restoring the castle and developing the vineyards. He has devoted himself to the study of astronomy, a subject on which he has published no fewer than five books and considers the influence of the moon indispensable to viticulture. In the vineyard, they practice biodynamic and organic approaches to viticulture, based on astrological movements and with minimal chemical sprays.
