Rocca Di Frassinello Red Wine Maremma Toscana 2015 750 ML

Aromas and flavors of mineral, black cherry, blackberry and tar highlight this rich, vibrant red. The tannins are well-integrated. Producer Information Rocca di Frassinello is an Italian winery in the Tuscan region of Maremma. Its wines incorporate a blend of Sangiovese the region’s dominant variety and the key grape in nearby Chianti as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The brand was established as the first of several expansions by the Chianti Classico estate Castellare di Castellina. Castellina partnered with Bordeaux producer Domaines Barons de Rothschild, the proprietors of Lafite Rothschild, to produce Super Tuscan-styled wines outside of Chianti. The partnership settled in the Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC with the planting of a 7 hectare (17 acre) vineyard in 2000. Today, the land under vine at the Rocca di Frassinello estate has grown to cover almost 81ha (200 acres) of the 202ha (500 acre) property. The catalog of wine predominantly comprises red blends, but includes a varietal Merlot and a singular white wine from the local Vermentino grape. While Rocca di Frassinello is within the Montregio di Massa Marittima appellation region, the wines all carry the broader Maremma DOC on their labels only elevated from IGT status in 2011.
